From May 2 to 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to three European countries: Germany, Denmark, and France. PM Apart from speaking at the key India-Nordic summit in Copenhagen, Modi is scheduled to conduct bilateral talks with re-elected French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

In 2022, this will be the Prime Minister’s first trip outside of the country.

The Prime Minister’s visit to France coincides with the results of key presidential elections in France. In areas such as defense and counter-terrorism, France has emerged as an essential partner of India. PM Modi most recently visited France in August 2019 for the G-7 Summit.

PM Modi congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his reelection on April 25 and expressed his desire to continue working with him to strengthen the India-France strategic alliance.

The Prime Minister will attend the Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) in Berlin, where he will meet for the first time with incoming German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The Indo-German IGC switches between the two countries every two years. The most recent IGC took place in Delhi in 2019. Then, on the most recent occasion, German Chancellor Angela Merkel paid a visit to the country.

The Prime Minister will meet with new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the first time during the Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) in Berlin. PM Modi will also be in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the 2nd India Nordic Summit. The summit will bring together leaders from all five Nordic countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, with an emphasis on clean technology, climate change, and renewables.
